Traditional Unconscious Bias training doesn’t work!
In a 2019, the psychologist, Patrick Forscher, conducted a study into Unconscious Bias training that found it didn’t make lasting changes to biased behaviour. Other studies have revealed that the training can backfire by sending the message that biases are involuntary and widespread—beyond our control, in other words. This can make people feel they’re unavoidable and lead to more discrimination, not less.
Unconscious bias occurs as the result of our brain’s natural predisposition to look for patterns and we use it to make decisions every day. It’s important to note that it’s not the same as bias, which is often the result of prejudice and conscious assumptions.
it requires honesty and vulnerability
So, what makes this training so different? Our Transform Unconscious Bias into Conscious Inclusion training session does more than increase awareness of bias and its impact. It focuses on individual endeavour and helps participants develop an understanding of how the unique unconscious biases we hold about ourselves influence how we behave with others.
By the end of the session everyone will have learnt concrete tools to use that will transform an unconscious bias into conscious inclusion. It will show that one person really can change the world around them.
Reflecting on unconscious biases is important but challenging work, it requires honesty and vulnerability and a willingness to see another way. All of our trainers are experts in their field and will help you feel safe being vulnerable in order to grow as a person.
Our Transform Unconscious Bias into Conscious Inclusion training session has been designed to help you:
Explore the relationship between biases and beliefs and the way in which they influence behaviours
Identify the biases we hold about ourselves and how they then link to our beliefs about ourselves and influence our potential
Remove your own limitations by using a transformational tool to uncover and reverse unconscious biases about yourself and others you consider to be like you
